3. Servitec Maschinenservice GmbH

Servitec Maschinenservice GmbH has a long history dating back to 1856, when mechanical engineer A. Dresel founded a workshop for specialized machinery at Chausseestrasse 29 in Berlin. In 1887, Friedrich Schwabenthan took over the business, and over the following decades, it became a leading European manufacturer of machinery for rubber, gutta-percha, and asbestos products. In 1908, Franz Schwabenthan moved the company to Saarbrücker Strasse 22‑24 in Berlin. During the 1930s, the headquarters relocated first to Potsdamer Strasse 23a and later to Hasenheide 9. After World War II, Ruth Schwabenthan restarted the company at Hasenheide 9 in Berlin Neukölln, shifting focus from Polyethylene pipe production line to laboratory equipment. The plastics boom of the 1950s and 60s helped the company gain a strong European client base. In 1971, Ruth Schwabenthan sold the company to engineer Ernst Kerth. Under Mr. Kerth, the machinery program was modernized, leading to the creation of Polymix rolling mills, Polystat laboratory presses, and Polytest laboratory extruders, first shown at the K 1973 trade fair in Düsseldorf. A global network of representatives ensured these machines were used worldwide. The company later moved to Rudower Strasse, then to its own building on Gradestrasse in Berlin‑Neukölln. Schwabenthan's last location was in Berlin‑Wedding, where it closed in 1995. In 1993, Axel Kerth and Rüdiger Spangenberg founded Servitec Maschinenservice GmbH in Berlin, securing exclusive after-sales service rights for all Schwabenthan machines. After Schwabenthan closed, Servitec continued the machine program, updating and improving the original designs. Since 1995, Servitec has been producing rolling mills and presses in Wustermark near Berlin, continuing the legacy of high-quality machinery development.
