Polyamide (PA), commonly known as nylon, is the largest yield, the most varieties, the most widely used varieties of engineering plastics. Transparent nylon is an uneless or microcrystalline thermoplastic nylon.

Transparent nylon introduction
By changing the types of binary amines, binary acids or amino acids, nylon varieties with different physicochemical properties can be obtained, including general nylon, long carbon chain nylon, high temperature resistant nylon, transparent nylon and nylon elastomer. Transparent nylon is an irregular or microcrystalline thermoplastic nylon with light transmittance up to 90%.
Because transparent nylon has better oil resistance, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, scratch resistance, and other properties, so it is widely used in automotive, electronic and electrical, machinery, optics, sports and other fields.
Application of transparent nylon
Automotive field
Clear nylon excellent weather resistance, UV resistance, wear resistance is very suitable for this application. A decorative and protective layer of 50 to 750 μ m can be made on the surface of the parts by injection molding and surface lamination molding.
Applications include: automotive interior, dashboard, console, switches must ensure good appearance during their service life, and these surfaces are often exposed to sunlight, sweat, oil, cosmetics, detergent, which can cause destructive effects to these surfaces.
Electronic and electrical field
Transparent nylon has good insulation performance, high thermal deformation temperature, self-extinguishing flame retardant, creep resistance, high durability, high transparency characteristics, suitable for the electronic and electrical field.
Applications include: switches, high voltage switch housing, relay housing, cable fixing head, battery seals, push buttons and keys, wiring terminals, gears and racks. Transparent nylon provides fire resistance and reduces fire risk without using halogen or other flame retardant, meeting the HB class flame retardant performance requirements of UL Laboratory.
Mechanical field
High transparency, chemical resistance and other excellent characteristics, so that transparent nylon is widely used in the mechanical field, the preparation of various injection molding parts.
Applications include: water, fuel, and compressed air filters, flow meters, level indicators, enclosures, inspection mirrors, valve parts, metering equipment, and guide rails.
Optical field
As an ideal transparent material, transparent nylon can meet the current market requirements for advanced frame and lens materials: lightweight, not fragile, scratch resistance, chemical corrosion resistance and stress cracking resistance. In addition, for glasses manufacturers, the ease of material processing is also very important, must be suitable for injection molding process, and easy to drill and polish. Transparent nylon can also be made as screws that replace metal to fix lenses made of transparent nylon materials, thus completely avoiding the possibility of allergies for the glasses wearer.
Other areas
The high transparency, wear resistance and solvent resistance of transparent nylon make it suitable as a permanent laser marking material. The various information marked can be permanently retained, extremely reliable, and errors and forgery are almost impossible.

Characteristics of the transparent nylon
Transparency
Common transparent materials are listed in order from large to small transparency: PMMA> transparent nylon> glass> PC. The transparency of transparent nylon is second only to PMMA. With 2mm thickness, the light transmittance of visible light is more than 90%, which can meet the most demanding application requirements.
Chemical resistance
Transparent nylon is resistant to dilute acids, alkali, adipose hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, esters, ethers, oils and fats, and is superior to PC and PMMA in terms of environmental stress cracking resistance. The traditional transparent nylon has poor tolerance to alcohol. In recent years, various transparent nylon manufacturers have improved this problem and introduced new varieties that are more alcohol-resistant.
Low density
The density of clear nylon ranged from 0.99 to 1.1 g / cm³, lower than that in PC and PMMA. Low density means a more comfortable customer experience, such as the production of lighter sports glasses and sunglasses.
Abrasion resistance
Transparent nylon is often used as a shell and has higher wear and scratch resistance than standard specification PC and PMMA materials.
Flexibility
PC and PMMA have large bending modulus, belonging to hard materials, while transparent nylon is flexible, has strong shape memory ability, and can produce more flexible products.
Conclusion
The light transmittance of transparent nylon has reached the level of mainstream transparent materials.
